Fire in London: Luton Airport burns, parking lot collapses

The fire broke out in one of the various parking lots at the airport, which partially collapsed due to fire damage. Four firefighters who extinguished the fire, along with an airport employee, were taken to hospital after inhaling strong smoke fumes. No losses. Around 1,200 cars were damaged when the parking lot collapsed.

The priority is safety

“The safety of our passengers and employees is our top priority. Therefore, we have decided to suspend all flights until 12 p.m.,” said the airport authorities’ statement. The closure was then extended until 2pm in England and 3pm in Italy. The accident, which occurred at night, caused loud explosions and triggered alarms on the vehicles involved. The speed at which the fire spread was “unbelievable,” according to a witness.
