Super-G in St. Moritz: Goggia feat, success number 23

Sofia dominates with almost 95/100 ahead of Hütter, draws level with Brignone and returns to success in the specialty after almost two years. Fede 5th, Bassino 7th. Hard fall for Curtoni

First goal achieved. On the Corviglia, which gave her a world medal in the giant slalom and where she was again a protagonist last year (she broke her hand, the next day she won the downhill), Sofia Goggia returns and wins in the super-G. This hasn't happened for almost two years, since Val d'Isere on December 19, 2021, and this time it's worth more: almost a second ahead of second place, Austria's Cornelia Hütter (at 95/100), over one second over Lara Gut (third with 1:02). A dominance built after a controlled start and an acceleration that no one else has managed to replicate, also taking some risks before launching into an irresistible finish. And the certainty that after progressing in the giant slalom, Sofia also took on the super-G.

in the cup

Sofia is restarting the challenge with Federica Brignone: She has now equaled her teammate with 23 victories (6 super-G, 17 downhill) in the World Cup. For Fede, fresh from a fantastic double with the Mont Tremblant giants, a day full of regret. A mistake at the end when she risked going off the track slowed her on her way to the podium. “It's a shame, I was in the running for second place. Today I didn't feel like putting pressure on myself, I didn't feel well. The race with Goggia? I don't care, I want to think about how I ski, about my performance. In the end, Brignone is fifth (with 1:21) behind Mikaela Shiffrin. And seventh with 1:77 is Marta Bassino. Sixteenth place for Laura Pirovano with 2:79.

Curtoni fear

It wasn't easy on a day with poor visibility and light snowfall that disrupted the athletes. Terrible fall for Elena Curtoni: after achieving the best intermediate result in the upper part of the Corviglia, the Italian flew away at a hundred kilometers per hour, which was betrayed by a bump on a day with terrible visibility. Elena landed on her back, slipped dozens of meters and landed in the safety nets. When the airbag deployed, Elena got up and got back on the skis, but she appeared to be in pain in her knee.
