Tanner Mordechai Completed 24 of 31 passes for 189 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday’s 38-17 win over Buffalo. He also had five rushes for two yards. Mordechai had high expectations entering Week 1 after back-to-back 3,500-yard seasons at SMU the past two seasons. But, the graduate seemed to struggle with expectations and rhythm in his first appearance at Wisconsin. The 6-foot-2 signal caller continued to be very accurate while running what was primarily a short-to-medium passing attack against Buffalo. His final tally also could have been much better if not for a deep pass to Skyler Bell that would have resulted in a 60-yard touchdown. Mordecai will be looking for a better all-around performance when Wisconsin travels for a tougher Week 2 matchup against Washington State.

Cameron Ward Completed 37 of 49 passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 50-24 win over Colorado State. He also had 13 rushes for 40 yards with one touchdown. The first edition of Ben Arbuckle’s new crime OC is in the books, and it’s been a smash hit. Ward has yet to break 400 yards since his time at Incarnate Word, and it was his best performance as a Cougar by a wide margin. To say Arbuckle’s scheme suits him is an understatement, and although he faced a soft opponent, huge lines like this could be a sign of things to come.

Give me Washington State. Wisconsin once again showcased its running game (what else is new?), but Mordecai threw two interceptions, which is nothing new for a signal receiver. He had 22 picks in his last two seasons at SMU, and Washington State thrived on turnovers. The Badgers also struggled in Buffalo’s passing game last week, and the Cougars have a better air attack than the Bulls. I gladly take the 5.5 and put it in my back pocket. I may not even need the points.
